VAN LIFE WEEK 1.
Leaving Switzerland for this journey feels amazing. Not nothing the exact route, only the direction - south.
The only experience Sam and I had with living out of a car was with our 1995 Jeep Cherokee. Where we drove all the way to Sardegna and back in a bit more than a week. That was fun but more of a holiday than really living like that.
And this time it was not only us two going on this journey. Maxx joins us, how can he not.
With our new Sprinter, a rare bike in the back and the bare minimum of clothes and some dog food we left home with our first stop in the south of Switzerland to start the journey with the people that made all of this possible.
From there we went through Italy - San Remo to be excact. With our wallet being penetrated by the tolls through Italy and even more so France we made it to the Provence.
A place I thought I would never have to see. But we only went there because after 4 hours of driving I had to take a brake, and leaving the motorway from where I had seen it with driving, the closest was St. Remy en provence that had a nice place to stay on a beautiful vineyard/ farm from lovely people.
We didn’t know anything about the place, but with the weather being sunny, a warm wind blowing through all the trees and fields surrounding us, we walked 15km from our home to the center of St. Remy and back.
On the way Maxx found a dead boar, had a squirrel sideways in his mouth and felt free like never before.
We really loved it there. We had good Internet connection so I could watch all the Real Madrid matches. With a glass of wine, home cooked food and lovely company.
From there we headed to spain but had to take two more stops in a town I don’t even remember, but where it looked like there where 50 people living and cousins probably were more than cousins.
Last stop in Perpignan where we had to buy again bottles of wine in exchange for Wifi so we could buy ourselfs new data.
I put the alarm as early as I could because I finally wanted to reach Spain. We drove a bit over 4 hours to reach a hidden lake I saw online on the way to Bardenas Reales. More on that in the coming weeks.
As we arrived at the lake - it was magic. No one arround. No sounds. The water as still as it could be. Sunsets were pure magic. The full moon added to the drama. You’ll see all of that in our recap on Youtube.
We stayed two nights before our water and electricity reserves finally got a bit tight after more than one week.
More to come in Week 2.
PS one lesson learned already. The journey is the goal, not the goal itself.
