DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE.

Lately life has come into the way of me and photography.

Traveling gives you new inspiration every single day, if you want it or not. Being in the same place for a longer period of time you can loose your creativity.

So I had to change something. Since right now we are very happy where we are travelling like we did before is something that we look forward to in the future, but for now i needed a quick fix.

I went online and saw the amazing pictures of Ain Radik, Sage Sohier etc. A mix between 35mm film and medium format. So I bought both.

A Pentax ES with a 50mm 1.4 Lens which was around 200.00 and a Fujica 690GW Medium Format Camera with a huge 6x9 Negative for about 500.00 from Ebay (near mint from Japan - arrived within 3 days - crazy).

I needed this camera when I saw the book of Sage Sohier. She shot “Passing Time” with the Fujica and it looked amazing.

But it was not done with buying the cameras - they needed rolls of film - and after that development. Rolls and Development were another 250.002 - so you see, shooting film is very expensive and maybe dead like i heard from many sources. Because why spend all that money if you have a digital camera that allows you to edit, upload and share the pictures within minutes.

I had to do it anyways. If you want to be good at something, understand it and get better you have to go down the rabbit hole and learn everything about it. And photography for me is understanding how light works, how to ocmpose etc. With my Leica its not hard to photograph, and i caught myself many times where i took a picture where there wasn’t really any story to tell.

Shooting analog you think way more about every little detail and if its worth pressing the shutter or not.

Following my first tests in analog photography. Some out of focus, some burnt. And with the medium format i only get 8 shots per roll... On Kodak Gold 200, Ilford HP5 400 for the Pentax 35mm and Kokdak Portra 160 and Kodak 400TX for the Fujica 6x9 Medium Format.

It was such an amazing and new experience when i got the files from Jannis @ https://devbyjannis.ch/

I will definitely focus now more on shooting film for the next couple of adventures - there is something special about it. Even if I know I could replicate it with no effort from a digital shot and use a film preset in Capture One or Lightroom - it’s about the process and the moment.
